Completion rate is the hard‑core metric that tells you whether your sound, pacing, and narrative hooks are holding. It’s not just the number of listens; it’s the percentage of people who actually make it to the end of an episode.

The platform calculates it by comparing the total time a user spends playing your episode to the episode’s full length. If 100 listeners start an episode that’s 30 minutes long and 60 of them play the full 30 minutes, your completion rate is 60 %. That 60 % is the raw signal you’ll feed into your editorial decisions.

A low completion rate flags problems you can solve: pacing that stalls, a weak opening that fails to hook, audio glitches that distract, or ad blocks that interrupt the flow. Segment the data by episode length and by listener cohort to see if short bursts (5–10 min) retain listeners better than long‑form (30–60 min). If your long episodes consistently drop off halfway, break them into two parts or tighten the middle section.

Use the metric to iterate: test a tighter intro, experiment with different ad insertion points, or trim under‑performing segments. Keep a baseline of industry averages for your niche, but aim to outpace them by focusing on clear narrative arcs and consistent audio quality. Remember, completion rate is a pulse check—feed that data back into your workflow to keep your show alive.
